The 1984Ensemble is an International Free-improvisation collective founded in 2013 by Trombone Creative Kris T Reeder.
The 1984ensemble initially recorded sporadic sessions in the basement at Oxford Brookes University without any permanent members but recently Kesia Decote, Marcin Wolniewicz, Nikhil Damney and Kris T Reeder have performed regularly together. The ensemble doesn't generally rehearse and invites various musicians with an improvisatory background or interest to play with the ensemble at different times. The ensemble has a flexible approach to composition and performance which is reflected in the various venues, countries and styles of performance.
The 1984ensemble has developed a unique take on improvised music / sound with influences from Miles Davis and John Coltrane through to free improvisers Evan Parker and Pat Thomas.
The 1984ensemble was from 2014 until 2016 ensemble in residence at the Middleton Jazz Centre, had a regular slot at the Grimsbury Jazz Club at St. Leonard's Church, Banbury. The 1984ensemble performed at the annual Grimsbury Music Festival in 2014 and 2015.
After an extended break from 2015-2020, Kris T Reeder announced via facebook that the 1984ensemble would be recruiting and recording again.
